If you have played Fallout 76 you may have seen other players having their base (CAMP) under the game world map. This is how you can build your CAMP underground.
- You will need a foundation block, some stairs, a doormat and the playable bass instrument.
- Move the bass on the doormat. You can now move the bass by selecting the doormat and moving it.
- Move the doormat on the stairs, somewhere around the middle. You can adjust this later.
- Move the stairs to go downwards on the side of the foundation block. The stairs will go down underground. The tip of the bass should be visible above-ground. If it isn't, move the stairs back up and adjust the doormat accordingly.
- Now try playing the bass. Your character should warp underground to play the bass.
- Exit the bass. Your character will be standing on the stairs, underground.
- You can now attach floor pieces to the stairs to start building underground.
Once you are underground with the bass trick you can place down a Symptomatic. The idea is to use it as an entrance as it is more convenient and better looking compared to the bass on stairs.
- Place down a Symptomatic and go back above-ground to see if the top of it is visible and usable. If it is visible the entrance is good to go.
- If the top isn't visible we need to elevate the machine a little bit. Stack some mats and place the Symptomatic on top of them, then go back up to see if it’s visible. You can fine-tune the height this way with the mats. In this case I needed 7 rubber mats to elevate the Symptomatic enough.
- Going above-ground we can see that the top of the Symptomatic is nicely visible and usable.
- Using the Symptomatic from above will warp your character inside the machine and exit underground. The Symptomatic entrance is done!
These are some basic ideas on how you can build your base under the map in Fallout 76.
One useful thing to do with an underground basement is to put your CAMP generators there to hide them from view. You can attach the generators to above connectors and appliances as usual. In my own CAMP I have hidden my fusion generator under the map and attached it to connectors above to power my base.

You can attach wires to connectors both under and above the ground to hide the generator.
You can do all kinds of fun stuff with underground base. For example you could place CAMP items under the map so they poke up at unusual heights.
Some players are cautious of underground areas in CAMPs, but your character doesn't actually die if you fall in to nothingness. The game will simply teleport you back to the surface. I would still recommend storing all your scrap beforehand in case of accidents.
